PSSST!!!! Have you heard?
|
Admit it.
You were expecting Green Acres, weren't you? Well, thankfully, we have a little more experience in all things farmy. And, that's a good thing. But an even better thing is that we also have experience in sharing what we know with our farmstay guests! Like they say...KNOWLEDGE is POWER, and man, oh man, have we built up some farm muscles over the years! It would be a sure bet that, right about now, you are wondering, "Who are these people, and what on earth are they doing there on their little farm in West Tennessee?" Pull up a comfy chair, sit back, and we'll attempt to explain--as best we can--who we are and, yes, what on earth we're doing here! The "Nitty Gritty", part 1: In addition to being a row crop farm, Stillwaters Farm is a farmstay getaway, located on a 153+ acre farm near the little college town of Henderson, in the heart of West Tennessee. Two hours west of Nashville and one hour, 45 minutes east of Memphis, it is centrally located and perfect for daytrips to the majority of the state of Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, Western Kentucky, northern Mississippi, and northwestern Alabama. Our on-farm accommodation is The Cottage Farmstay, a two bedroom / one bath cottage, decorated in what we like to refer to as "early farm eclectic". In keeping with the spirit of the "farmcation", we invite our guests to jump right into the daily activities, hide away and rest, or daytrip to their heart's content. Whatever makes them happy makes us happy! We also have two accommodations just a short 2.75 mi drive into town--the Urban Properties. These accommodations work well for those who want to be right in the thick of Henderson things, ONE block from Williams Auditorium and all the shows throughout the year as well as only 3 blocks from Freed Hardeman University! Urban Properties guests are invited to full access to the farm and winery, too, if they wish to visit. NOTE: Guests 21 and over are treated to a free Forty Cannons wine tasting at check-in, if they'd like! Bring your physical I.D.s*, too, folks because we I.D. *sorry, photo copies or digital images not accepted The "Nitty Gritty", part 2: We are family owned and operated, doing our part to preserve the spirit of the small American family farm while educating our guests on the important role agriculture plays in everyone's daily lives. While we do have a few miniature donkeys to keep the coyotes at bay in the pasture, birds of all feathers, and a straggler cow or horse, our farm is not predominately livestock-driven. Our efforts are, instead, focused on providing the winery with the ingredients needed to make great wines. Our primary agricultural efforts, then, are centered around the perennial crops that feed the winery: crops like wine grapes--red and white, elderberries, figs, and roses. Yes, you read that right--R-O-S-E-S. The English variety, for the most-part, featuring David Austin English roses. They are favorites in the culinary community for their prolific petal production and true rose fragrance. The "Nitty Gritty", part 3: The WINERY... Ahhhh, the winery... Forty Cannons Winery, located at the front of the farm, along with the Crow's Nest Tasting Room (located in our former grain bin), are fully licensed and operational here at the farm! We are Chester County, Tennessee's very first--and only--winery, and we have, well, personality plus. Where else are you going to find a subtly pirate-themed winery in Tennessee? We value our patrons, and we show it. If you haven't already, consider visiting the Forty Cannons website to get full details of what we're up to. With the Notes from the Cap'n page to the online store, it'll keep you posted on what's current, where we're headed, and what to expect in the tasting room! Here at the farm, we strive to share our experiences with YOU, provide you the rest you've been needing, and be a safe place in a crazy world. Take a look around. Feel at home. Take your shoes off and relax while you browse our pages to get a real feel for what we’re all about! |
